Main jet = 2.5 turns Idle jet = 2.75 turns?

Good morning everybody. I have a question about the adjustments on the carburetor on a 12V side mount distrubutor 8N.

Before I took the carb apart I counted how many turns both screws were turned out. The main jet was 2.5 turns out and the idle jet was 2.75 turns out.

From reading I know the suggested adjustment is 1.5-2 for the main and about 1 turn for the idle. And that is what mine is set at now but it sounds like it's doesn't have fast enough idle or enough power when I drive it.

Should I set the adjustments back where they were when I took it off? Or is there something that needs fixed in order to have the adjustments set correctly?

I would appreciate and advice you are willing to share. Thank you!

People say a lot of different things about carb adjusting, but it really boils down to what your tractor needs to run right. Main jet I start with it at 2 1/2 turns open and with it running at close to full throttle adjust it in until it starts to falter, then back out 1/4 turn. Fine tune as needed for power at load.

My machines don't run much at idle so what ever works is good for me. If you have a worn throttle shaft, it will run with it all the way in. Remember the idle screw is adjusting the idle air not fuel.

Great, I'll do that. I thought the 2.75 seemed a bit far from the "average" 1 turn for the idle. That was my main concern there. I really appreciate your help, R Geiger. I'm going to step out to the tractor in a few and do what you suggested.

Thank you!
