Another 8NNAA axle shimming questions.

So been quite a while since I shimmed rear axles of a Ford. About 15 years ago on a 9N. So if I understand correctly there is .002-,006 clearance between the two axle ends that meet in the differential housing. So in theory the ends of the axles are bumping together? Is this correct? Also does or should the hub play any role in the bearing load in the race? Seems when I tightened my hub it got harder to turn.

As you have already figured out, there is NO bearing pre-load and instead free play of a few thousandths.

NOT sure what is going on, worn hubs, or the seals getting damaged/binding?
