Hi I have a Detroit harvester sickle mower. I think its
a 14-1/2, 14-1 or a 14-2 not completely sure. Does
anyone know what type of replacement blades I can
use or do I have to take one off and bring it to a
dealer?

The sections should have on them an A or B or some such marking and should be pretty common. As for the PTO shaft that too should be a common shaft hat you can buy parts to make a new one for it. BTDT on many old sickle bar mowers over the last 35 years

Ultradog has it right on the knives and such. The PTO shaft is a different story. If it is the original shaft then it will have 1 1/8" splines where the tractor PTO end goes on the mower end of the shaft. You will either have to make that piece from two 1 1/8" PTO yokes or put a whole new shaft on the mower. I had an original end for one and my crack head neighbor stole it when he stole $1400.00 worth of stuff from me.

When I was a kid,my Grandfather had a couple of sickle bar cutters, but horse-drawn,and wind-rowers and also a bailing machine. He bailed lots of hay that way. Those cutters would have to be derusted and sharpened to work.
