One Other Ford 2N Question

When I open the battery lid on this little 2N there is a formed plate that is shaped like the hole in the hood, and it sort of snaps into the hole, above the battery and just under the door in the hood. I assume by the shape that it is a factory piece, but I've sure never seen another Ford with one on it. Is this factory, and what was the actual purpose? It would look like it was to keep the battery from bouncing up or something, but it is metal, as well as the hood door. Thanks - Bob

I agree and don't really see the purpose unless it is supposed to try to keep rain water out or something. Bob

Sounds like a stock battery cover. It was used to protect the battery (and by extension the operator) from having gas spilled on it during fill ups causing someone to have a bad day. If its original, they are getting harder to find, might want to hang on to it.

No one has mentioned metal gas cans. Grounding the battery to the hood while pouring gasoline could ruin your day. I have one of those for each of my 9N/2N tractors. BUT, I no longer have any metal gas cans.

My '41 9N has one on it. Not sure of the purpose but I'm guessing to protect the battery when the lid is opened.
