I fell off my garage roof and broke my leg
3 weeks ago. Did a good job of it - both the tibia and fibula (lower leg bones) compound fracture so the bone was poking out of the skin.
Had to have surgery and they put a couple of pins and screws in it.
Lots of pain and a lot more laying around being grumpy and bored.
But the doctor said to start using it a little. Using it is good for it he said.
So I'm getting around a little better.
I've been looking at the lawn here. It's getting pretty shaggy. So I fired up the Ford 75 and mowed the place.
Kind of a bone shaker and I had to take some ibuprofen afterwards buy it was nice to get back on a tractor again.
Hopefully this picture works.

Jerry,

Sorry to hear that!
I think I can say, I know the feeling.

On your bigger tractors, Clutch or Brake pedal leg?

One of the repercussions for me re last spring when I fell again after the hip replacement and cracked my pelvis in two places, was that for the longest time you have an excessive fear of falling making things like ladders a nerve-wracking proposition.

Very few people ever take my advice, but I'll say again that vitamin C is a miraculous vitamin for the healing and immune system and the web and doctors confirm that vitamin C is the best natural anti inflammatory there is -- which is why you are taking Ibuprofin. You need the good powdered form of vitamin C and should be taking at least 6000 mg per day.

You also need to pig out on all the bone and muscle building materials! when the surgeon looked at cracks in my pelvis he said that it was healing beautifully and that I was an amazingly fast healer. I told him that I think it is so only because ever since he replaced my broken hip, I have been religiously taking magnesium and a product called Healthy Bone Factors.

Heal quickly,
Terry

Wow!

Good to hear that you are recovering.

Tractor therapy seems to be just the right thing for you but take it easy.

orry for your troubles. Hope all well soon.

a few months ago my cousin grabbed his 12 ga and was going to dispatch a prairie dog from his deck. well he was off balance when he pulled the trigger and fell off the deck onto some lumber he had. broke a rib and injured his back. no tractor time for him for about four months.

glad to hear you healing.

Wow! That's scary. Glad to hear you are on the mend. Be careful on those roofs and ladders. One of my brothers is a symphony violinist. He fell off a ladder a couple of years ago and broke his wrist. He mended and is back to playing but still goes up on ladders!!

Fell off a ladder cutting a tree limb 9 weeks ago. About a 15 foot drop. Broke my left heel. Since then,I am walking but still have pain. Crutches were a pain in the Butt. Glad to be off them. I probably won't be totally back to normal for walking for a couple of months yet. Such is life when you get old.

Positive attitude will heal.that faster than anything. I broke my jaw on 1980. Doc said it would be 6 weeks wired shut. 4&1/2 weeks later he cut me loose. He said he nwver saw one heal that fast
Ever since then through many tribulations including burnimg 22% of my body and havimg my right thumb tore off( you cant make this stuff up) Attitude does alot and getting out and rid of " poor me syndrome" works wonders.
Beleive it or not, attitude will do more rhan anything next to hygene in healing. imho.

Hope you heal up soon. It can be a long recovery. I have been there done that. Doctor would not let me put weight on mine for 5 months. Just take it easy and get well soon. Glad to see you were on one of your machines already.

sorry to hear that Jerry.
With the Doc's approval of course, getting back in the game and
normal stuff of your life, sure seems to make the getting better happen faster.

leg eh? with your fabricating talents, is there a hand clutch or hand brake Ford in our future? :D
get well soon.

John,
I did it August 1st. Spent 2 1/2 days in the hospital and never once thought about your visit. But you'll understand I hope. Would still be fun to meet if you get back out this way.
Thanks to all for your replies and kind wishes.
One piece of advice to everyone here;
Don't try this at home.

Whenever something like that happens to me I am thinking "how bad is this going to hurt?" I guess you found out immediately. Your 75 looks a lot better than mine!

Jeez Jerry - I thought now that you have adult supervision you would be directed away from dangerous activities like going on roofs. ;-) Chris and I hope you have a quick and complete recovery.

PS - Adult supervision didn't help me either

Definitely NOT a problem. Stuff happens and hopefully we survive. Heal up and get back to work. I need my SS. LOL
Seriously, I hope there are no lasting effects from you injuries and that the hospital staff were as good to you as I received in 3 four day stays last year.
We arrived in Minneapolis on the first and had lunch with my niece and her fiancée at Mall of America (what a jam of tourists!). Then we had dinner with my best man and his wife.
Not sure when we might get back to Minneapolis. My goal for next year is a tour of middle US from Ohio to Utah.

Dang it man. I'm not even going to ask what you were doing on the garage roof.(Was she in the string bikini again?? lol)Hope youheal up fast. I fell down a couple of concrete steps july 4th and it took me about 3-4 weekks to heal up. Nothing broken but I'm diabetic and have celluitus and it took leg that long to heal safely up so i could do stuff again. :D

Jerry you are lucky. A good friend who snowbirds to AZ fell off a roof down there about 11 years ago. Impaled himself on a wheel barrow handle that missed his heart by a couple of inches and his spine by a fraction of an inch.

Sure hope you heal up fast.

Rick
