9n Engine knock

Hello,

I have a 9n that recently developed
what sounds like a knock in the engine.
Any ideas I. How to narrow it down
without really tearing it apart?

Tried pulling spark plugs, no change.

Any and all help is greatly
appreciated!
 
This may not be very scientific but a mechanics stethascope has always been helpful to me to isolate engine and engine accessory noises. It at least may tell you front or back of engine, water pump, governor, ect, noise is coming from. I used mine last this morning to isolate a belt tensioner that is goimg bad on my Silverado.
 
knock all the time or at idle?

oil pressure when knocking?

so removing one plug wire at a time and listening makes no difference to the knock?

do you have the pto turned off during this testing ( and thus not trying to lift a load while testing ).

is it skipping or missing any or idling good? ( other than knocking. )

any drastic or sudden change in oil pressure or behavior that coincided with development of the knock, or was this a gradual thing that didn't knock a year ago, but now slowly knock has gotten bad enough to worry and post about it?
 
The suggestions made are great and I hope one will solve your problem. If not, before you tear into the motor, remove the head and check for a loose sleeve. With head off crank engine and watch for a loose sleeve. It sounds just like a loose bearing.

all work good
I have a piece of thin-wall small square tubing from who knows where that has inherited the noise finding job.
the metal tube magnifies sound nicely....touch the right spot...whew..there it is
