(Iowa tractor)Got the tractor almost all the way apart yesterday. Working on doing lift pins. They spin and the left one is bent. Realized I forgot to order axle seals. I have the inner seals due to ordering the wrong ones on time. Hubs are shot. The right side had 3 broken off studs the right had 1. Which isn't surprising. The right rear is full to the top of cc the left just over half. Brakes are shot. So this morning Going to go find some good used hubs for it from the parts tractors. Still waiting on the machine shop for the engine.

Looks like fun! With the hot weather we've been having,
I'm glad this one is your fun instead of mine! 8)

Lol...I wish it wasnt me doing it....anyhow... I've discovered the right axle bearing is shot..I know they are pressed on. What's the easiest way to do it?

"Cut it off with a die grinder. Put axle shaft in deep freeze overnite. Next day heat the bearing to 350 for 15 minutes. Take it out of oven with a heVey glove and slide or tap it onto the axle you had just taken out of freezer .. worked great for me.

Thanks! We don't live out there and generally only get out there if we're not fishing on the weekends so I crack the whip when we are there. Just ordered the last of the parts...i hope

Then run like heck when you wife catches you using her appliances!

I'm not quite so sure my mil will let me
stick it in her freezer...mine at home is
too small or I'd do it here. I'll just
sneak it in there when she's not looking

Chest freezer is in fhe shop. If your worried just wrap the axle I n something. You can put a bearing on an old cookie sheet thtas been preheated to 350. Alot of people say 300. But that dont work near as good as 350. A hexk of alot easier than trying to hold that long axle in a press.. S far as cutting the bearing off. First I cut the cage and pull all that off. I then cut not quite all the way througj the rest of it then hit it with a chisel and they pop open..

yep that's how we got it off. Worked like a charm. Parts won't be here in time to do it this weekend but sounds like it should be simple.

If you have 2 people its even easier. One grabs the axle out of freezer and the other hrabs the bearing. Slide it ove the end and should slip right on. Moght have a hammer and punch handy in case it gets hung up a bit and to make sure it os in correct place. Double check you have it going on facing the correct way.. dont ask.
.

let me know how it works for yyou. I waa going to do it the press way at my buddy's truck shop. He showed me the grinder deep freeze thing a long time ago
Just did it last winter agAin. The 350 deg is from just doing it at 300 with average results. My brother said in rhe Navy they heatwd bearings to 350 . So I tried that and it works so much better.
