8N Buddy Seat

Anybody ever seen a decent way to attach a buddy seat to a Ford 8N? It doesn't seem like there's enough room to do so on the side, and it'd probably be unsafe behind the driver. Any thoughts?

My 5 year old loves tractors. He won't be out doing work with me, but I know he's enjoy a slow scenic drive; I want to do that as safe as possible. I would have the PTO covered, maybe have the back blade on, but no other implements.

If you are going to do it, this is one of the safest and most comfortable i've seen.

(quoted from post at 11:03:49 08/13/15) I don't have a pattern for you hawkmiles
but i will give you a head's up.
There's Lots of safety nannies around here
and even mentioning giving a kid a tractor
ride will have them crawling out of the
woodwork with all kinds of dire predictions
and accusations. To some of them, even
letting a child SEE a tractor is akin to
child abuse.
Mark my word, they're probably feverishly
typing as i write this.

Yeah, I kinda figured that would happen! Thanks for the heads up. I see you're in MN too!

[b:1a13dee476]2ruNgineer[/b:1a13dee476], that's a pretty cool setup! My concern was that putting kids behind the driver would make them prime target for getting crushed if the tractor flipped. However, that setup there looks to be much safer. The other advantage is that you could take it off and not have it on there when you're actually doing work. If I did that setup, I'd probably run it with the PTO cover on and/or get one of those deals that'll lock the lift arms in the up position. Thanks.[/b]

But what if someone were to rear-end you or, or, or.....
Just kidding. Give the kids a ride!
If its a long ride, an exhaust pipe extension to get the exhaust
behind them and out of their faces might be a nice addition.
An old piece of muffler pipe should do it. :)

Its not one of my N's, but this is my normal "ride" machine.

mini bench seat probably wouldn't be too hard to make.
extending, making the stock seat deeper or 2-stage like a motorcycle works too.
You go in the back....little ones want to steer, and they are safest in the seat.

little older? safety police will yell at me, but I just bolt a steel plate to the under belly drawbar, and I stand there.
They 'drive'
any problem?...well I think reaching up and turning the key off
will end the ride quickly.
Probably shouldn't even mention walking beside them at low rpm in low gear with a string attached to the coil wire and my wrist :D
(in the last example, secure the throttle...if it's a lever, button or switch......they will pull/push/try it!)

Here is the seat I made for 16 year old granddaughter to go with me on tractor rides. I'm sure the safety police wont approve, but it has worked well for the last two years. Based on TSC carry-all frame. Backrest from my B not installed in picture. ( poor resolution after resizing pic )
