OT air c ompressor

If you are going to be in the same room with it , get an oil lubed one . The racket from an oilless is awful...

If you want one that will last a couple years go oil less if you want one that will last you your life time and your sons get and oil lube type. I have one in my shop that came out of a gas station back in the 60s and up till the more went out it was just fine. Still just fine but have not had $350 for a new motor

(quoted from post at 13:52:35 08/13/15) Oil for sure. Oilless wear out faster and are loud
il-less compressors ought to be required to be shipped with hearing protection devices in same box!!!!

And the speed they wear out at.

We have 2 portable air comps for use on jobs, the oiless one has been rebuilt twice, the oil one is getting tired but still works.

As the others have said the oil type last longer and does not make as much noise. However, my oil type will not work when it is very cold in my unheated garage. I need to heat it up first to thin out the oil. I have an old, 20 years+, Craftsman oil less that has only seen minimum usage. It still works great and loud. It comes in handy when I need to inflate a tire in the winter.

what oil do you run in the sump?

The synthetic pump oil is supposed to be real good cold. Might be worth it to spring for a quart.

oil
and buy quality.
My compressor is my Superman alter-ego.....
and as cheap as I am...compressed anything is not the place to save pennies.

One more vote for oil. A builder friend uses pancake oil less compressors because they're cheap and light but he replaces after every house. Doesn't lose much sleep if they get stolen either.
My oil type is 20+ years old and runs like a watch. Do yourself a favor and go 220v too so it doesn't dim the lights.

"compressed anything is not the place to save pennies."

Amen to that. Another vote for the oil type.
I just replaced my 12 year old 2 cylinder single stage 60 gallon
125PSI oil type with an 80 gallon two stage 175PSI oil type.
Nothing wrong with the old one but I wanted more pressure and
quicker recovery so when I found a two stage at a bargain I
picked it up. I guess I'll put the old one in the other barn.
