8N fan belt w/loader replacement

I just broke the fan belt on my 8N (side mount) with a (Jungle Jim) Dearborn 19-70 loader! I have the assembly and operating instructions manual and I see how it is assembled and mounted BUT what I don't see is an easy way to replace the fan belt once assembled. I thought that maybe I could move the drive shaft forward enough to slip the belt between but that now doesn't look good the way I see the woodruff key is positioned. I'm thinking I might have to unbolt the loader and pull the entire unit forward enough or tractor back enough to disengage the driveshaft. Please somebody tell me there is an easier way to change to replace the belt!!!

The pump driveshaft should be a splined drive at the crankshaft hub and you should be able to remove the driveshaft from the crankshaft hub by loosening the pump mounting bolts and sliding everything forward away from the tractor. That may give you enough clearance to slip the belt off the pulley an up out of the front bolster. If not loosen the bolster attaching bolts and gently pry it forward to get more clearance.

The lazy way is to buy one of those segment type belts that you twist and lock together at whatever length you need. They work great.

As the Hokie say you should be able to unbolt the pump and drive shaft and remove the shaft to install a new belt. It will be a real tight fit and may have to spin the engine some to pull the belt past things

Like TOH advises, remove the pump driveshaft. Then unload the front axle and loosen the bolts securing the front axle support to the engine block about 1/4" allowing the front axle to be moved forward enough to gain clearance to install the belt. You may need to remove the radius rod socket caps.

Not a bad job.

Thanks guys, Its exactly the way TOH suggested. I was hoping somebody would tell me I could slide the drive shaft forward thru the coupler enough to slip the belt on. It's forecast to be 105 degrees here today and stay fairly close to that for the next ten days so the machine will sit right were it is until it cools down some - no deadline on moving the dirt pile so I'd probably back off anyway. Thanks again and consider the advice well taken.
