Ford 8N dumping coolant through radiator cap after shutdown

This is a 1948 8N and it has coolant overflow from radiator cap after I shut it off from mowing. No temp guage so I don't know if it is overheating although i don't know any other reason. It also leaks from the hose connection shown in this photo. I have tightened this hose clamp now but why is it only leaking from cap at shutdown...fan no longer running?

Probably too much coolant in radiator. The coolant level should be a couple of inches below the filler cap when cold. Water / coolant expands when
hot.

Wouldn't I have to wait for it to cool down to pull radiator cap and check temp...or are you suggesting checking it with cap off during warm up?

When I pulled the hoses off I didn't find a thermostat....just a really big spring in bottom hose (to keep it from collapsing?).

if its not over heated you should be able to SLOIWLY loosen cap. either way take it slow and easy and wear gloves or put a rag around the rad. cap.

Non pressurized cooling system so little if any problems removing the cap but you still want to use a rag and do so slowly just in case.

it is a pressurized cooling system.

early Big tank N's were non pressure.

That N should be something like 4 - 7 psi

(quoted from post at 08:33:28 07/31/15) any chance the rad. could be clogged with grass?
Steve I checked it when I removed the hose to look for a thermostat and it looked clean...both sides. Thanks for reminding me though...easy to overlook.
