Leaky Gas Shut Off

I just received and installed my new fuel bowl. It leaks like a sieve around the shut-off stem. The packing nut is tightened all the way in. I was thinking about packing the stem with faucet packing. Any one else have an idea for this foreign junk?

Before I would mess with it I would be calling the place you got it form and asking them why it is bad right out of the box. Some how warranty issue can come up if you mess with it before calling to raise Cain

I have started changing all of mine to ball valves with a clear auto filter. OK for working tractors. I put a stinger on top of the valve to keep from pulling in trash.

I just replaced mine. At first I just replaced the valve stem assembly but it still allowed gas to flow (drip, drip). So, I ordered a whole new bowl assembly and installed it. As always, (I always take things apart to see how they work), I took the old bowl assembly apart to see why it was leaking in the first place. The valve stem assembly has a rubber collar in it to keep it from leaking past the stem. Yours might have been assembled without the rubber collar.

I wish I had known that a new valve stem was not going to stop the leak...I the cost of a whole new bowl assembly was not much more than just the valve stem assembly.

In any event, the valve seat in mine had become scored from use. The new assembly does not leak.

me too
on brands of tractors where there is room, a T fitting with a capped drop-pipe with the ball valve high on the side.....works good.

I have 2 fords, a 8n and a 640. 30 years ago I bought 3 of the Ford 8n shut off doohickeys in a row. They all leaked and did not shut off the gas floe completely. The oil level on my 640, keeps going up?? I have been looking for a simple metal shut off valve that I can simply put in the line from the gas tank. Problem is the gas line and fitting sizes. The 8N thread on the carb seems to be a different fine thread than what they have at the hardware store? My Deere B has a simple plumbing type shutoff by the carb that works great. I am curious which of these would be compatible with todays gas? and where to buy same?

I installed a new valve in my 8N and it leaked like a sieve also, changed the bowl gasket three times before realizing it was the plug on the unused port that was not tight and allowing gas to drip just as if the bowl gasket was bad. Check the plug for tightness.
