starving for gas

My 52 8n runs good but seems to starve for gas after sitting and running for 15 minutes or so, its probably one of the screens or sticking float but in the off chance it has a plugged vent is there a way to cleare the gas tank vent without removing the gas tank?.

Very simple to check if it is the vent by simply removing the gas cap with ti running. If that makes not difference then pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas for a few minutes. If flow is slow simple work your way back to the tank till you find where it slows down Very simple trouble shooting

"but if it is the vent can it be cleared without removing the tank?"

Unfortunately not. At least not that I know of.
You can use a vented gas cap though if that's the problem.

With another person to help removing the gas tank and flushing it out real good with a garden hose should take you about four hours. This would be removed and reinstalled. I recently had to do this to get all the box Elder bugs out of mine. Those delicate little wings play havoc on the gas valve inlets.

But sometimes you can cheat by removing the rubber washer on the gas cap so it doe snot fit down tight which can act as a vent

pixie........look forward under yer hood and see the DOME? It has a vent hole that mud daubers like to clog-up and 15-mins is just about the time limit fer too much VACUUM fer yer gravity flow carbie to starve out. The vent hole is on the front of the dome so you can't see it. Iff'n yer sphincterly challenged, you haffta remove yer hood to access the 4-bolts that hold the tank to the hood so you can access the vent hole. Iff'n I went to all that trouble to remove the tank, I'd shure 'nuff drill me a NEW vent hole that I could access with long wire from the gastank hatch door. They sell a special vented gas cap fer NAA's & 600's that won't leak iff'n you turn yer tractor upside down. ($20, cheap) .......Dell

My Ferguson was starving for gas after about one hour of mowing. I could see the gas in the glass bowl was going in sprits followed by a lot of bubbles. Cleaned tank, replaced same type valve, changed gas lines, cleaned carburetor several times no help. This went on for several months. Finally changed the valve to a 1/4" ball valve and that solved my problem. I guess when the gas got hot it lowered the vapor pressure and the pressure drop through the valve was just enough to flash which vapor locked the system.
