lift arms will not raise questions.

Ok I have a 52 8n and I was mowing along then after a hour in then the hydraulics would no longer lift the mower, pto works good it feels like it's trying to lift but will not, the lift control lever gets a little harder to move when in the lift position, I took the inspection plate off and checked for leaks when lift is engaged oil comes spraying from the top lift cover, it's hard to really get a good look with the tire on, thar are also small bubbles coming from the center of the pump, any help would be appreciated. I also have all the manuals, early in the year I replaced the safety valve and piston with the leather and rubber o ring.

"when lift is engaged oil comes spraying from the top lift cover,". well, looks to me like you have found the problem. Now you just have to pin point the leak.

I agree, what could possibly be leaking in the top cover? Gaskets under the cylinder maybe, i don't remember what's up in there, thanks again.

asket between cylinder & top cover & gasket between top cover & center tractor housing, maybe even a rust hole near top of vertical tube connecting pump to top cover.

it looks like its coming from the piston, about a year ago I replaced the piston with a new one with the o-ring and leather ring, should I go back to the original piston with new rings?

What was the condition of the cylinder bore when you put the o ring piston in? If it was rough, it could have destroyed the o ring.

"should I go back to the original piston with new rings?"

IF that's where it is leaking again this time, you may need
to recondition or replace the cylinder body.
I got away with honing one of mine and using new rings.
