8n hood removal

Hi folks

I have a 2n and 9n and now an 8n that I have to take the hood off looks like the wingbolt that holds the door on the breather is stripped and just spins. What can I do to take it off. Is there a less destructive way?

Yup cutting it off was what I did they had a nut on the back that I couldn't get to and seemed like if I tried anything else it was going to damage the sheet metal. Should there be a filter element on there?

Yes there should be a small mesh metal screen.

I re-did mine recently. With the replacement door, the after market parts people provided a new stud and wingnut. the stud and wingnut (on the
replacement anyway), has a hex nut on the end...yours may be rusted on the stud and the whole thing is turning. I would try screwdriver leverage while
trying to back the wingnut off. Look at the end of the stud to see if it is actually stationary when the wingnut turns. If you have the clearance, you
may be able to get a hacksaw blade under the wingnut and cut the stud off. If anything, I would sacrifice the wingnut and/or stud before I wreaked the
sheet metal.

Yup it was a wing nut and stud. Not a thumb bolt, it was one of the old fashioned bulbous kinds that looked inflated like a balloon not the skinnier modern kind so I was trying to save it too.

Take the air filter off first. Remove the carb. air intake from the filter and carb. Remove the 2 bolts holding the filter to the battery box. Tip the filter in at the top and drop it out. Then, remove the hood so you can get to the back side of the hood intake to remove the door.
