Just wondering if someone can tell me what N series this tractor is? The serial number on the bell housing
is too ate up to read. I acquired it and am going to sell it so I need to know what it is. I believe it is
a 9N but not sure. Thanks for any help - Bob

(quoted from post at 14:58:40 07/25/15) Like Kirk says 9n or early 2n.

The serial number is on the engine left side just below the head.

I agree.....and.....rear blade looks to be a Ferguson BFO-20 Terracer blade! (with rt., and lft. angle adjust)

I believe I see a 9 at the front of the serial number but not sure of the numbers. Looks like two I's in front of the serial number. It does have a pressure rad cap though. Bob

Ford used "I's" as ones. Lower case "b's" as sixes, upside down
for nines, etc. From your picture I would think your serial
reads 9N1192x5. x being zero or eight maybe.
If the "9N119xxx" portion is correct, it would make it a 1943 2N.

Many parts may have been changed over the years.
The engine may not belong in the tractor it is in, changing it all.
There are casting codes in many parts if you want to dig that far.

For buying parts it won't make much difference.
Many people have never heard of a 2N or 9N.
They're all "8N's" to the main stream crowd.
I would think your tractor is a 2N personally.

Edit: I forgot to point out John Smith's awesome website for research!

Bob..........congratulations you have the braggin' rights to 1942 2N. ALL 2N's engine serial numbers start with 9N. The LAST 9N was 9N99002. Yer s/n is 9N119205 so that means the engine was manufactured in late 1942. Since ALL N-engines are interchangeable, you could be driving a 4-speed 8N. ALL 9N/2N's have 3-speed trannys. Some may have the desirable Sherman AUX tranny with shifter on the side of the tranny housing above yer left toe. (which I don't see) While the 9N/2N's were painted solid gray variously called industrial gray, forest service gray, battleship gray; many have been re-painted the more colorful red'n'gray of the later 8N. More important than the color of the paint, is the condition of the ag-bar rear tires. ($150-250ea) .........HTH, historian Dell

Thanks to all who responded. It does have the 3 speed transmission. I didn't realize both 9n's and 2n's serial numbers started with 9n. Thanks again, now I know what I have and can list it correctly. Bob
