Tractor runs for 2 or 3 seconds

Last week the wiring harness started to smoke JMOR helped me with it. I had to replace the ignition switch, coil and moved the positive ground wire to the engine block.

Now, the tractor will run for 2 or three seconds and then die. It will start right back up only a few seconds later only to die again. I switched out the condencer (just to check), and tried it with the same results, then I took off the gas cap off just in case it was vapor locked (same results).

Heck if I know......

f you fill the carb bowl & turn off the gas valve, it will run near two minutes on that bowl of gas, No electrical component heats much in 2 to 3 seconds. Can you get a flow out the carb drain to last long enough to fill a pint jar?

rucker........new condensers are known to be BAD rite outta the box, so its good to save yer old condenser as a back-up. Yer 2-3 sec runtime is almost the time limit of yer carbie mainjet well capacity. While it is good that you pulled the plug on yer carbie and checked fer flow, the mainjet could still have a floating piece of crud that blocks the mainjet. To empty the mainjet well, you'll haffta pull yer carbie lower half and dumper upside down. Remember to re-set yer down pointing mainjet to 2-turns and LEAVITT. Adjust yer side pointing idlemix fer FASTEST idle, NOT smoothest idle. Understand the difference? Its usually about 1/8-1/4-turn. Remember the side pointing idlemix is BASSACKWARDS, out fer lean, IN fer ENRICH. ........HTH, Dell

Good point, Dell. Could be trash at main & or emulsion tube that lets gas soak through for the short run, but not flow enough to run continuously.

Dell and JMOR you guys are great! I want to say thank you, I pulled the bottom of the carbie off, I removed the brass tube in the middle, two of the three holes were plugged up, cleaned it out and she runs fine.

this tractor belonged to an old friend of my Grandfathers, when the old man died, the widow was offered $200 for the tractor. I gave her $500 and now that it's cleaned up and running I'm gonna load her up and give her to the old man's son so he will have something his daddy owned, used and was proud of.

Again, thank you.

Randy
