8N Cooling Problem

Neighbor came over saying he had a problem with his 8N, thinking it was overheating after using it. Went over to take a look at it and saw antifreeze pouring from the bottom radiator hose. Took off hose (clamps were tight)and hose was not cracked and not the source of leakage. Checked water pump by turning fan and it was free with no end play movement. Removed the hood and took off water pump. Gaskets were torn and wet. First suspected gaskets failed and caused leak, but seems highly unlikely they would tare as all bolts were tight capturing the gaskets. Will get new gaskets and see if it continues to leak. Normally would suspect bad water pump. Neighbor say it was making no noise and fan turns easily, so we think bearings are good. Any way to check water pump to see if it is good or bad??

Do you guys recommend using any sealant on gaskets or assembling them dry?
Thanks in advance for any guidance or suggestions.

Permatex #2 and you can look into radiator (coolant level kept low) and see the flow that pump in or isn't flowing into top of radiator.
