8 N oil pressure problem

After a day or 2 of not using, I lose oil pressure, just replace pickup tube because I had this problem a few months ago, I found a crack in the old one... it may be the oil I am using from what I read, but need yall's advice, I can prime it and have good pressure until I let it sit for a day. I have cked the pressure relief but not measured the spring yet... thanks in advance

Billy........cupple of things. When you rebuilt yer engine, or replaced the long suck'em-up tube, didja pack yer oilpump gears with vasoline??? The half-cup of greese will NOT muck-up yer 6-qts of engine oil. BTW, Ford recommended 40wt detergent in HOT weather. Me? I use 20-50wt oil 'cuz that is all I gotts. As fer re-priming yer oil pump from the pressure relief valve, I gotta real squirt'em metal oil pump and use 90wt gear oil from outboard motor propeller housing. Trying to "prime" the oilpump with regular engine oil thru the pressure relief NUT behind the water pump is an exercise in futility 'cuz it will leak thru the pump gears before you and tighten the NUT. ........HTH, oily Dell

Likely causes:

1) Leak in the pickup tube or cover plate
2) Excessive clearances inside the pump

Virtually zero chance it has anything to do with the oil you are using.

Well I did not pack the oil pump with grease or Vaseline but I can prime thru press relief and the tractor will have oil pressure , good io press till I shut it down for a day or two..

Is packing the pump that important when you have already primed & ran the tractor with good oil pressure for an hr or so?, I would think eventually the grease would break down with the oil???

After priming and getting good oil pressure (what is PSI?) how long does it last -does it drop after fully warming and use? Would like to see the numbers-did you rebuild the pump when installing the new pick-up tube?

45psi cold 35 psi hot, the machine shop re surfaced the housing and new oil pump gears...
