FYI

The freeze out plugs that we've grown to know and love from Napa #219-1021

Have been updated and changed in the Napa parts center catalog to #381-1021

These are 1-3/16" thermal expansion plugs, made by sealed power.

I just thought I would pass this along.

I did not luv'em I thought they were a P.O.S. good to see they may have come up with a better hole stopper...

I had to use a file and dress the edge on the ones I have got from them they were silver in color  Do the new ones have a somewhat light bronze/gold tint to'em...

Nope, same ol' same ol'. I've not had the privilege to file them to get them to fit....yet. I'll probably be there by week's end! ;-)

You will need a sealer to seal the plugs I use Permatex aviation form-a-gasket ...

To set the plug use a small hammer smaller that the plug lay it on the center of the plug and strike it with a BFH...

Thanks for the heads up.

I was looking at these again last night after doing farm chores as the light began to fade.

It looks to be like these plugs are smaller than the ones that are currently in the block. The recesses in the block now measure 1.25" and the new plugs are 1-3/16". Is there another lip inside of the existing machining that I just can't see until I remove the old plugs?

Here is a picture that I took of the new plug overlaying the old plug. I know it's not the best picture but it was getting dark and I was holding a flashlight to take the picture.

Once I'm ready to install the new plugs do they get inserted concave in or concave out?

Thanks again!

Yes, there is a ridge for it to seat against. Otherwise when you hammer on it to expand it radially, it would just fall into the water jacket. Install as you are holding it in the picture.
