8n Starting Success

After a couple of weeks of stress trying to get my 8n started, my tractor is running and starting every time. I almost converted it to 12v and electronic ignition with a cost of over $400 but thanks to all your help, I fixed the starting problem with a $20 coil and a new battery. I am so happy tonight that my tractor is running, I celebrated with a good cigar and bourbon. My wife is happy and I am happy. I would like to thank everybody for all the help I got on the discussion board. I was really distressed over not getting it to start. A man and a tractor that runs is a great combination. Again thanks for all your help.

Every time it won't start you learn way more about
the machine than the hours you spend running it. It
might have been distressing, but the next time it
gives you fits you will have some starting points.

Although I've never put electronic ignition on an old
tractor, I firmly believe going 12 volt was a good
call. A generator system can be just as reliable as
an alternator system, but the quality of regulators in
the past years is changing the tide on that.
Especially a headache when it won't start and you
have to pay for a "better" charger that is dual
voltage and can't swap batteries with something
else in a pinch.
