Fuel line fitting to sediment bulb

1948 8N Front Mount. I am in the process of adding a thermostat and lower hose heater to my 8N. When I disconnected the fuel line from the sediment bulb
to raise the hood, it leaked gas (drip, drip), even though the gas supply was shut off. Therefore, I need a solid plug with which to temporarily plug the
sediment bulb until the work is complete. At a later date and when the gas tank is empty, will I worry about getting a kit to stop the leak.

What I need to know is what thread pitch the fitting is that screws into the sediment bulb. My instincts tell me that it is a pipe thread, about
5/16...but I am not sure and need to get the correct pitched plug to continue. The parts book only gives the part number of the line assembly, does not
indicate what thread pitch it is. Anyone know just off-hand?

Go to an auto parts store and ask for a MALE PLUG for a 1/4" INVERTED FLARE fitting. This is the
same dimensions as a hydraulic brake line fitting. Most NAPA stores should have this in stock.

rain the gas, siphon the gas, hood/tank already off, so just dump the gas! Some people make the simplest things into a project!

(quoted from post at 15:59:25 07/15/15) Thank you...you have saved me time and aggravation.

FWIW that link is not a plug. Get a 5/16-24 bolt - should work acceptably well as temporary plug....

TOH

I think TOH meant 7/16X24 bolt...

Nope its not a plug but a example of what went in the hole...

'just funnin'
darn, now I [i:814cc992d8]know[/i:814cc992d8] it leaks....
So, I'm gonna hafta trust that tiny little needle valve to keep 10 gallons of gas off my garage/barn/shed floor....
darn, why can't I sleep.....
lol, ok I'll fix it now..

I misread the size in Bob's posting and 7/16-24 is not a standard bolt so that's not going to work.

The hood and tank are not off the tractor. The tank is nearly full, I have no empty 5 gal. gas can available. I just want to prop-up the front of the
hood to get at the upper radiator hose clamps.
