8N headbolt - 1 a different length ?

I'm replacing the head gasket on my 8N (51 model) and when I went to clean the bolts to reinstall the head, I noticed one bolt was longer.I'm thinking it may have come out of the one that holds the oil filter bracket. Is this normal ? And if so, which hole should it go in?

Also the shaft is a slightly smaller diameter on the longer bolt, and it has pitting.

Roony........ya semi-gotter rite. The longer bolt is fer the WATER-PUMP ...not... oil filter. The oil filter is mounted by 2-bolts to the BLOCK. The longer water pump bolt is fer the GENERATOR bracket on LEFT side of engine. This is fer the 5-nipple side mount engine ........HTH, Dell

All 18 head bolts are the same: 7/16"-14x 1 3/8". 1 3/8" is a non-standard length. My guess is that some PO broke a bolt & replaced it w/ on as close as he could get, 1 1/2".

While no bolt holes are blind, you could have the very one you choose to put the longer bolt in clogged up w/ rust. Make sure the bolt won't bottom out wherever you put it.

BTW.....if you don't know the history of those head bolts, it would be a smart move to replace them. They never break on the first torqueing sequence...........

Dell, As you can see in the picture , my setup isn't completely stock. The homemade oil filter bracket is held on by a headbolt.
I didn't realize it was not in the stock position until you commented.

That was a dumm MF'er that reworked the oil filter mount Front mount to side are side to front mount... It should have never went under a head bolt...
