Installed new cut out, energized system, started tractor, amp gauge moved,
WOOHOO,it works. Only problem was gauge moved to discharge upon start.
No problem just switch wires on gauge.
Shut tractor off, and OH MAN, gauge goes other way well past zero.
Tap can, needle moves to center.
Switch wires around, start her up and needle heads to charge, about 15 amps.
Shut down and needle moves to full discharge, tap cap can, needle moves to center.
Any suggestions beside calling company bought from?
Is can openable to see if spring is hooked up inside? Is there even a spring inside?
Thanks, Norm

There's not much I dislike more than buying new parts that don't
work correctly. It really irritates me. I would send it back.
If they won't take it back, as many companies do with electric
components, then you have nothing to lose by breaking it open.
Be sure to let them know you're disappointed though. Most
reputable companies do care about their customers feedback.

Was thinking about having read about doing the bridge rectifier this evening.
Gonna see if selling company will make right first.
Unable to contact till Monday so will just operate tractor same as have been for last 3 yrs.
Very happy I bought a charger/maintainer last summer.

Several years ago my Dad was having problems with his and bought a new one and it was bad-then he got another one and thought it was going to be ok but it failed within a few months.I put the bridge in it and no more problems-probably been 6-8 yrs ago.Wish mine was still 6 volts and I would definitely do the bridge but mine is 12 volts.

Calling on Monday to see if can get resolved as cost plus shipping and waiting over a week for it to be shipped was enough to make me want to not deal with them or at least make them a last resort.

Tom, could you let me know where instructions to do so would be found?
E-mail thru here is open or howdy1960 at yahoo.com is direct link to me.
Thanks, Norm

I'M LOOKING--USE TO BE A SIMPLE diagram or two under parts and pieces at left side of the page but I'm not finding it but I think I have it in some of my compiter notes--Soundguy will likely see this and help us out..He helped get me through it when i did my Dad's Others know the details as well and will likely chime in..I forget more than I remember as I get older....will keep looking-we will find it..

Had same trouble. Got really tired of it Got a bridge rectifier from Radio Shack, gutted my cutout, installed and wired in said bridge, 5-6 years ago, and have not had a lick of trouble since. Radio Shack is gone now but I ordered 4 rectifiers online and set up another old cutout, just in case. I don't expect to be using any of them anytime soon.

Go to parts and pieces at left of page-at bottom of the page that comes up search for bridge rectifier.

Thanks all, I saved the links and pictures. I feel I will be headed that way soon
All tho I don't have any bridge rectifiers laying around (I don't think) I do have a few different styles of diodes. Some go up to 600V but that style needs heat sinks and was being saved for renewable energy projects.
Might even spend some time tonight on fleabay

Norm, you don't need a bridge rectifier.
The bridge just fits nicely in the can.
All you need is a diode. It doesn't need to be 600V either.
It DOES need to be big enough to carry the peak charging
current and inverse voltage. The listed bridge was 25A/50V.

Royce, I went looking in my Radio Shack learning kit and couldn't find any small diodes but in another box stumbled across a couple bridge rectifiers. LOL
I can replace that part X10 for slightly more than the only 25A/50V from RS sells for just 1 on fleabay
