Interesting story not ford related.

Interesting to me anyway.

I grew up in middle of Nebraska. I loved to work on
old engines like lawn mowers and moved into the
antique engines as I could find them. My tiny shop
was next door to an old gentleman named Jerry.
He was a great mechanic and he had a huge shop
that was built in the 1890"s and still was filled with
old stuff that was always interesting to a young kid.
One of those was an old snowmobile that the guy
bought new in the late 60's and I was told he never
used or used little. I pestered the old guy several
times about it and was never able to get it.
Probably hard to take a kid seriously.
The upstairs was full of stuff that I always heard
about as the building was an old tractor dealership
slash dry goods store. Original owner supposedly
sold steam engines windmills etc. I had heard that
he still had a display case that he sold old
winchesters rifles and pistols from
Fast forward many years. Jerry had passed away
several years ago and today they had an auction. I
had to work but my father went and we able to buy
that old snowmobile that was still in the same place,
the display case, the antique safe that was always
there and then my father bought the old building.
He was afraid someone would not take care of it
and he did not want to watch it fall down.
Sorry for rambling and I know not tractor related but
I am sitting in my chair here being introspective.
Amazing how fast time goes. I am 40 years old
now and am amazed at how fast time is passing
me. No idea why I bought the stuff but seemed
right. Thanks for listening. I posted here because I
frequent this forum the most. Hope I did not offend.

I mostly read and don't post much. I am 45 and understand about time passing. Thanks for the story I find it interesting to read other people's experiences and it is definitely not offensive. I even learn things! Cheers Matt

I was always amazed by it as it only has one ski up front and am told it has a reverse. I will probably just clean it up and oil up the engine. Every time I think about it I smell pipe smoke. His shop always smelled like that.

I don't know a lot about snowmobiles, but to me it looks like
it could be a collectible item. If it is original, I would leave it
original. Like old tractors and cars, they're only original once.

I'd love to see what you do with it!

It is all original. My father said Jerry bought it new
and wanted it in case he needed to go to the farm
after a snowstorm. My father thought it probably
had a hundred or so miles on it. It has two tracks
on it side by side and one ski. Two cylinder
opposed rotax and electric start. It is an odd duck.
Probably what interested me when I was 12. Now I
am 40 and have the same interests. Apparently I
never grew up.

I remember seeing something like that when I was much younger in action. Does it have a double track?

My Uncle and Aunt are thinking of getting out of NY State and moving to Pa so he dropped off a 74 or 75 Polaris 250 a couple weeks ago.
At least the engine isn't stuck LOL

As you say it looks like it is in excellent condition. It looks like about a 1968. Friends and I used a 1965 double track when I was a kid. if you were going to use it much there are two likely problem areas: The bearings at the outer ends of the front sprocket shaft and the engine crankshaft seals may leak.

back In one of my sheads I have a 63 artic car the 750th one bilt. a 64 mattues bilt in Hibbing mn. and a 65 huski or something with 2 tracks and a cart . man the stuff a guy can pick up over the years. some day thay will be saying the same about me. nice story. Bob

Me and you have the same problem. I can't walk by something old or oddball without thinking I bet I could make that run again. A good friend of mine once said that he thought I could make a piece of railroad iron run if I had enough time. Be sure and post some pictures when you get it cleaned up. The one thing you never find here in Florida is a snowmobile!!
