why do so of us run car tires on the front of their Ns ,are they harder on the stearing or front axle pinbushing ? or are they just fine for mowing grass .
thanks

auggy........several reasons.......you kenn gitt USED 16" tires CHEAP. They don't haffta be certified fer 100-mph. They don't haffta be "balanced" either. Plus fer those living in CHAPARRAL the THORNS don't penetrate the STEEL BELT. Since tractor rims are NOT LEAKPROOF, you always haffta use innertubes. Yeah, most N's are used fer mowing grass with brushhogs wider tires are an advantage ........Dell

Like Dell said, Cheap and easy to come by. But THORNS will penetrate the STEEL BELTs. May just not as easy.
Also when mowing turf they don't cut up the yard as bad.

I think the straight treads on the tractor front tires help guide the tractor in soft
dirt.
Example when you are plowing or cultivating, to maintain the proper row spacing. Also
my old tractor steers easier with new front tractor tires. Guess there is less tread on
the pavement.

But tractor tread will sure tear up the yard, if the tractor is used for mowing.

I have been running car tires for at least
10 years. They scuff the lawn far less
than tri ribs but do not get as good a
steering traction when plowing and
discing. For me the best of both worlds
was when I added about 200 lbs to my
bumper (front wheel weights would work
too).
Plenty of steering traction for all uses
and pretty much zero scuffing.

One of my 8Ns has a belly mower, and my mowing areas have a lot of twists and turns. The difference between tractor tires and wide radial car tires has been night and day in keeping the frequent short turns from chewing up the grass.

Because the old red head said that if I made one more rut in the front yard running the 8N with a finishing mower to get the job done quicker....she was gonna hit me...with something. Put wider car tires on the front and all is jim dandy now. I find the steering easier too and they don't dig in when you plow etc. I know that ag tires have a specific purpose...what ever it is. I love the implement rims/car tires. Ride better too. Plus keeps knots off my head from that ornery red head that stays on my arse for the last 38 years...I won't mention about the time a good looking female jogged by on the road in that skimpy jogging stuff they wear and I got too focused on the fine looking girl...and then ran slap over some of the red heads rose bushes....ugh. I can't repeat what she said that she is going to do me...not family friendly. I guess she relented so I can keep talking in a lower octave. I was fixing to be singing high soprano when she got done with me.
