Everything was fine before the paint job....

Now I've got no spark.

Tractor cranks good so I think my positive ground is good.

Power is reaching the resistor. 8 plus volts. (8 volt battery) Resistance is about 2 ohms. Voltage output from the resistor looks to be 1 volt!

Wire is good from resistor to coil.

Can I bypass the resistor just for testing purposes? Is that resistor faulty?

You can hot wire it for short time to test if the problem is before the coil or after it. If you have spark when hot wired the problem is from the coil back to the battery. If you do not have spark hot wired the problem is in the distributor

Local Yokel.........so now you wanna put 8-volts onna 4-nipple square can front mount coil designed fer 3-volts? That is what the "infamous" ballast resistor does, cuts 6-volts to 3-volts. Ballast resistance is nominally 1.7-ohms; most consumer ohm-meters aren't that accurate ennyhows, but voltmeters are pretty accurate. Yeah you ken by-pass the resistor, probably fer 5-mins MAX. Test the coil temperature with yer bare hand, too HOT to touch? You might gitt lucky, iff'n you do gitt lucky go buy a lottery ticket or two........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

BTW........starter motor don't care positive (+) or negative (-) ground, ALWAYS turns the correct way

Good chance that your points need to be cleaned and regapped. 0.015 for front mount

TSC has a tune up kit for 36.00. It has the Autolight 437 plugs. Cap, rotor, points, condenser. Should I just do that?

TSC heck no go to a good auto parts store or tractor dealer and buy some good parts not the ones from the land of almost never right. Blue streak or other such brand of points

Okay. Good advice. I should be supporting the smaller more local businesses anyway. I ran to Napa and picked up points, condenser and H12 plugs. She fired right up!

Oh boy am I happy about that.

I'm waiting on a drag link (tie rod) end right now. So I can't work it yet, but I've got a few things I still need to tinker with anyway.

Heck...what am I saying!? I can't work this thing. I might put a scratch in it!

I'm going to load it on the trailer and bring it to show the guy who sold me paint and who...in the end....sprayed the cowl for me. I couldn't seem to lay the paint on the cowl without getting huge runs. He got it perfect for me. (Bob Kulig from A&J Autoparts in Rutland Vermont.) A very patient man. Mixed 8N gray paint 3 times for me! I'll also run it down to the Ford dealer who sold it to my Grandad back in the 50's. Somebody there ought to appreciate seeing it.

Is that a 2N can not see the radius rods well enough to see if there I-Beam or tube type

I still have a front end like that off of a 9N/2N mutt I built years ago. 2N front end was better then the 9N so I used all the best parts
