Water pump impeller

Anyone have agood clear photo of the 8n water pump impeller, blade side? Would like to see what a good one looks like.

Yes, I remember all about the direction of the impeller 'swirl" & that looks OK. What I'm questioning is what looks to me like a lot of metal has eroded away, leaving about 3/16 clearance between the impeller & the housing (seems like a big gap) and the fact that the individual impeller vanes look somewhat like a worn tooth than a full vane. Comments?

Its normal to see .060 to .090 on most pumps I don't think a N would be much different..

I just replaced my water pump in my 9N. It was overheating even without a thermostat in it. I pulled the water pump and the impeller looked similar to the one in your picture. When I compared the new one to the one I removed there was a very noticeable difference in the vanes and clearance. Installed the new pump and also a thermostat and the engine runs now at between 165 and 170 degrees. I measure the temp with a laser heat gun.

(quoted from post at 22:32:35 07/05/15) Why not just replace the pump?
he very obvious correct answer, IF it is bad! Should be clear that determining whether it is bad or not is what I'm trying to do.

the rust damage makes it look worse than it is.
The vanes are still there, sorta.
it'll move water.....as in your pic

water wants to move in the right direction in the engine anyway(think Thermosyphon system)

Would I replace it?
on someone elses tractor or a hard-working brush-hog tractor...absolutely.
On a putt around junker....naw
If I did replace it, I would pay the core charge and keep it for the next tractor that had a wobbling bearing...that needs something right [i:64f83b2fe7]now[/i:64f83b2fe7]. LOL

Here is 2 photos. Hope it helps. The clearance between the impeller and the face of the pump is about .050 with feeler gage, the clearance between the impeller diameter and the housing was about .060 with feeler gauges. The pump looks almost new to me, came off of a blown engine

Almost looks like someone years ago put some calcium chloride in it to prevent freezing and left it in there for a while.
