Rear Axle End Play

I have a '54 NAA. Manual says each axle should have .002-.006" end play. How important is this issue? Seems like .002" is small enough that if everything seemed
tight, no wiggle, no noticeable play, one would be OK. In order to do the test, both wheels and brake drums need to be removed from the tractor. With wheel weights
plus the tire itself, I'm trying to avoid taking both off at the same time. I used a cherry picker with chain for the right side and only have one cherry picker. What
happens if there is less than .002 axle end play? Thanks.

Personally I'd figure a way to stack wood blocks under one side-let it down on this -- raise the other side and get the other wheel off--do the job one time instead of guessing.
