New tractor

Well, guess I will just go get a new Kubota-can't find anything within reasonable distance from me--never been one to run here and there to look at scrap iron that is advertised to be ready to work..

I think you will be pleased. I bought one in 1999. Only thing I've had to do to it is change fluid and filters. One battery after ten years.

I have not heard of a dissatisfied Kubota owner..Know you hardly ever see a used one for sale..They get em and keep em.

It seems that in NY, you can't give them away used. They sell a lot of new, probably because of the cost. Here, Deere is the clear winner!

I have a JD 5065E that I purchased a few years back and have been very satisfied. Works hard and is easy to use. I got a front end loader--how did I ever get by without it--and front wheel assist. If you can afford it, get both of those options. The shuttle shift is another option. Some swear you need it, but I get by just fine with the old clutch and shift.

As for Kubota, I too have never heard anyone complain about them. Change oil, fluids and battery occasionally and you have a good tractor.

I think you won't go wrong with either.

Deere is a good one but around here outrageously over priced--like they don't care if they sell u one or not..

Agreed.

I bought a new Kubota B1750 HSD in 1994.

Haven't done ANYTHING to it in 21 years aside from lube oil and filters. Absolutely nothing.

New tractors have tier 4 engines and I don't want engines with tiers. I own 5 kubota' s and like each one for it job , they are lighter than deere' s so buy a little extra if you think you may need it . I also recommend hydrostatic transmissions as they are truly time savers for yard end loader work , if you are plowing you will lose power and either need smaller plow or larger tractor.

Thanks for the info-90% of use will be for bushhogging medium to heavy grass just to keep it from growing up.Loader would be nice but hadn't decided on that yet--Just 20+ acres most open but could uses loader in some areas now.

I was reminded yesterday how bad I want a bigger tractor--dry ground tough Byhalia grass my
little L1500 will beat u to death--of course no power steering..good power for the 6 ft
finish mower I keep behind it 100% of the time--tough tough little machines. Had it since
96 and not one problem--I have said the next tractor I get Will have power steering no
matter what else I have to give up....

I should have brought a M and would trade mine in if it were not for the emissions required on a new one  Last week I did talk about it with the dealer but the emission deal keeps pop'N up...

I have 78hr on my L4600. I would say 70hr have been hard loader work. HST is hard to beat doing loader work and bush hog'N... My HST has High, Medium, Low I don't think I would ever be happy dirt farming with it... HST does take some get'N use too it has its good points and bad points. I would not buy a standard shift it would be HST are some form of there guidshift...My HST has a clutch pedal they have done away with it on the new models I never use the clutch pedal except to start it so there is no need for a clutch disconnect... Its not used much on a glideshift either

Bota's are not trouble free I have had to do some expensive transmission work on one glidshift that was a factory defect, bota admitted to it but they offered no help...

My Bota quit pulling the first of last month it set here for 10 days I had to remind them they were going to come get it. It set on there trailer for over a week on there lot it finely got on the ground but has took a week to get it into the shop. I was told they plan to open it up next week. My understanding is they are having a rash of issues with a wash plate (hydraulic control) that connects the forward/reverse HST pedal inside the trans... Some kind of updated kit is spouse to retain the center bearing in the wash plate from pop'N out... If that's all it is I can live with that I am told it does not cause any farther damage to the HST...

I want a bigger one with more speed selections and would luv to have the new high back seat  I want a set of those Extendable lift arms BAD :!: I would get a loader and never look back they come off extremely EZ you will find it handy if you get the quick attach system

My Bota HST is all mechanical
My buds JD HST is loaded with electronic switches and sensors that have been a issue... Every 2 years it has to be loaded up and taken back to the dealer to be reprogrammed/adjusted ...
I like electronics on cars I am tooled up for it but not look'N to tool up to work on a few tractor electronic issues a year...
The younger generation of tractor mechanics will get it they will learn how to fix it and make a living at it...

BTW make a factory service manual part of the deal...

Another BTW they come with wet brakes no SS needed...

And another "4X4" and never look back... Its purtneer mandatory for loader work... I should have held out for ag tires and been happy with them tearing up my yard...

HOBO, thanks for the info --makes me scared of the HST - I grew up with a clutch and a
shift--not sold on the HST yet but understand how nice it would be for loader work- also
guess there is no way around the emission mess..wish I could find one with low hrs without
the emission junk---but folks get em and keep em..

I would have to drive 150 miles or more to find a Kubota.

I would much rather buy a Ford N Series or hundred series and fix it up. Then buy a new utility.

Back in 2000, My dad bought a 1962 Ford 4000 rc (172 engine) with wide front axle. The engine was shot. It had to have a new crank, bearings, block bored .020 over,New seats and guides in the head. Plus other stuff like the exhaust.we also painted it. It's not perfect but is nice.

He has $5500 in his 4000. Could you buy a new Kubota anywhere close to $5500?

If you can do with a 25hp tractor I would recommend the L2500DT or L2500HST as they do not have the emissionized engine and are a good bare bones workhorse tractor.

When I bought my JD 5065E I purposely bought earlier than I needed it to avoid the emissions. I think I got a tier 3 or 3.5. Anyhow, I don't have to add the DEF that I do in my truck.

Does the tier 4 motors require the DEF? How do they handle the filters on the motors?

good advice in the thread..
get a loader, new ones go on and off so easy.
keep an old tractor around for dirt farming stuff.
The new one will do it ok, the old one will do it better.
Get the HST, you'll feel like you can join the circus with your loader with a HST's fine control.
When you do your research and are absolutely sure on the model you want/need.........go up one series in size. yes, it will cost a bit more...pay it.
Another thing mentioned....tires. If you buy a new loader tractor, every one on the lot will have industrial R-4's.
Salesman will tell you they hold up better with the loader and help resale value. True enough....but listen politely, then tell him you want R1 Ags. You are buying a tractor......don't handicap it....

It's a shame about the tier 4 stuff.
I've spent the last 10 years slowly working my way up the trade ladder to bigger, better (new orange ones hold their trade-in value very well)
but it looks like I'm done now. read about the various tier 4 solutions...don't like em.

Thanks for the info-have not looked yet but I suppose I can find out what I need to know
about tier4 on line-is that correct? Have no clue about it at this point. Because of tier 4
should I just forget about a new one? Thanks again.

I looked a few years for a good used bota folks wanted new prices for them are they had a aftermarket loader on them I wanted it to be all bota... If I were gunna pay a new price I wanted a NEW one...

I ran across a deal today 2005 bota M6800 4X4 400 hr. one owner with a loader if my bud don't buy it I am... My L4600 is tier4 but does not have ANY emission chit on it somehow it slipped thru the cracks... Folks are getting use to the new emission B.S. I for one just don't want to pay for it... Non emission used botas are fetching a damm good price... :D

The killer on used, a new one ZERO % financing...

The good, used NO emissions, folks with the money will pay a new price for a nice used non emission tractor... (you just have to find them...

I can write off the payments for a new tractor its really not a issue as long as I can make the payments...

I figure tight as you are you cold dig up a jar are two from the back yard and for-go the write off...
