An old Ford/Dearborn brush-cutter mower I just acquired has a 1-1/8" female end to attach to the tractor's 1-1/8" PTO shaft. I've done a preliminary online search for an overrunning clutch to put between mower and tractor, but all I find are 1-1/8"-to-1-3/8" ORCs. Does anyone know whether 1-1/8 x 1-1/8 ORCs exist, or will I have to replace the mower's PTO shaft (or at least its end)? I appreciate any advice.

(quoted from post at 10:24:34 06/20/15) they exist! Shouldn't be hard to find.

I would have thought the same thing. I just tried a whole bunch of places on the net and could not find a straight 1 1/8" ORC either.

Maybe they're not so common as we think.

Just tried to find the one I mentioned and had no luck. Maybe I was looking at a adapter that was in the same bin I got mine from. Sorry about that.

Note that some sleeve adapters nowadays seem to be made of extremely soft metal (the ones imported from the places you'd expect) and if your mower hits something the adapter might give way before the
shear bolt or slip clutch. Might be a good idea to buy a spare one...

(quoted from post at 08:25:52 06/21/15) Is the driveline to the mower a fixed assembly? Could you use a 1 3/8 half of one instead? Stacking adapters is just a horrible pathway to failure of the link.

The drive shaft from the mower will have a "U" on the end of it. If worse comes to worse, you could buy a 1 3/8 " half of a "U" joint and just change it out on the drive shaft as suggested above. I've seen those parts at TSC.

I agree with BTH about stacking adapters. Not only will it induce more slop in your drive line, it will increase the length maybe making the shaft too long.

they show as out of stock here at yt:

Well heck, when I'm out of stock, I sell them at 50% off regular price.

YT was the first place I looked for one. Maybe they're out of stock because no one makes them anymore. As I said, try and find one anyplace, anyplace at all.

agreed. I used to see them at TSC even. they were black colored, not the gold zinc chromate ones.

I just did a search of 10 usual plasces that carries speeco and tisco parts and couldn't locate a single one in stock.

May be a low import item and india or china hasn't sent our 35 count order into the USA this year. :)

On Amazon, no less! I had searched there, but obviously not aggressively enough. Thanks for the info. It's going to be a lot easier than changing the mower shaft.

I also searched Amazon and got a few 1 3/8 orc's. I guess you just have to know the magic words when doing a search.

I would have thought that it would have brought up all ORC's not just the 1 3/8" ones.
