removing grease and mud

8N front mount 1948...not that it matters.
I need to give it a good cleaning. I have grease (from the grease fittings) mixed with mud. Years ago there was a product (I can remember the colors on
the can, but not the name) you could buy in the bulk and mix with a carrier (kerosene, fuel oil, etc.), and spray it on greasy engines. When allowed to
soak-in and then hit with water from a hose, it got things pretty clean. The bulk product no longer seems to be available and I cannot remember the name on
the pre-mixed product...it may not be available anymore anyway. So, the question is, what is a good product to clean my greasy-muddy tractor without
removing the paint?

Go to the auto parts store and buy a purple gallon jug called Super Clean. Don't breathe it in - it's almost like oven cleaner in that it will make you cough. It's great stuff. I keep two gallons on hand at all times. It's hard on sprayers so buy a good solvent rated squirt bottle for it.

sounds like Gunk Concentrate. You mixed it with kerosene, then used it just like regular Gunk, that is to say, sprayed it on, then washed it off with water.

I have heard rumors that the Concentrate is still available, in some parts of the country at least, but I have not been able to find any.

No problem gertting Gunk SC (gallons) here in Maryland and I use it on a regular basis. I mix it 10:1 with diesel/kerosene and it works better than any other degreaser I have tried.

Try to get a squirt bottle of "Invisible Pink" at your local large super market in the cleaning supply area.It is colored pink in a one quart bottle. It can also be gotten thru GOOGLE. The company that puts it out is located in Gorham Maine. It really works and is environmentally friendly. Comes in quart squirt bottles. Spray it on let it soak in and then wash it off. I used it with good success on my 2600 Ford to remove diesel stains around the fuel pump and block. Did not bother the paint.

I use super clean also..it also doesnt feel very well on the skin so wear gloves. It will remove paint so i would advise against it if you want your paint left on. I'll have to see about the "pink" stuff see if we have it around here

If you are talking about Gunk SC it will remove the oils on your skin but it will not remove paint. It is not caustic and contains one or more surfactants that mix with the diesel/kerosene and grease and oil on the parts when you brush or spray it on. The surfactants allow the petroleum products to emulsify in water when you hose it off. After you mix a batch up be careful not to contaminate any unused cleaning mix with water when you are hosing down your parts - it will render the surfactants in the unused mixture ineffective.
