The original subject was "50 8N starts stumbling after 45 minutes".

After a long hiatus, I have the results. My stumbling problem worsened to where the tractor would only run for 15 minutes before stumbling and dying. I shorted across the key switch and that made no difference. I removed the fuel tank and cleaned the little tiny vent hole. No change. Finally, despite having what I thought was a good spark on all cylinders, I replaced the spark plug wires (11 years old), the condenser (less than a year old), and the ignition coil (less than a year old) and the problem disappeared. Tractor runs great. I mowed for nearly two hours and it never missed a beat. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
