touringsedan, I have restored a few cars too.
They, like tractors, can be "restored" cheaply or done right.
One of the pickups I did took me ten years to get it right.

In most cases for either one, you will have as much or more
into it than it is worth when you're done, if you do it right.

"Pretty cheap" is obviously a relative term.
If I found a '69 Hemi Cuda for a thousand dollars I would
think that was way better than pretty cheap! On the other
hand, some folks can't afford a "take my kids to school and
get groceries" car for a thousand dollars.

I have a friend that learned to do body work with me.
I joined the military, he went on to pursue the auto body career.
He does very well for himself now, having cars shipped from
all over the world to his shop. Some just for "touch up".
His brother says he doesn't touch one for less than $100K now.
