9n/2n resistor question.

Replacing cheesy wiring harness on tractor, I am confused by the existing Frankenstein arrangement of wires to the resistor. The resistor has 2 posts, looks like the lower (ground ?) is broken off. The distributor coil wire is on one post. One of the key ignition wires is on the other post. Everything else is sandwiched in space via a bolt/nut junction. There was another wire connection in the junction from dashboard light switch to rear light and a ground that I removed because it was a tangles mess. I do not need lights.
If I cannot remove those two bolts and the ground is broken off how should I attach a new resistor ?

" everything else is sandwiched to the second post via a bolt/nut junction. "........doesn't look that way to me. What is connected to ign sw? Probably the white wire on resistor's right (right as in photo) and another which gets power from somewhere. If you expect to mount a new resistor assy, you need to get those two mounting screws out.

That is not the ground that is broken off of the resistor assy, but rather a tie point terminal for all of that group of wires bolted together. Where to mount? I suppose you could get creative and move L/R/up/down a bit & drill two holes for mounting?

So if i were able to mount a new resistor how would connections be made ? The manual shows coil on right, one ig sw wire on left and everything else on the lower post.

I do not have tools or ability to drill new mounting holes. Repair
guys too busy with real farmers . will proceed with efforts to remove . I am older than this tractor.

That make two of us! If screwdriver fails, try to get on one edge & rotate it with hammer & chisel.

If you break the phenolic base of the resistor assy apart (chisel) then enough screw head may be exposed to get vice-grip on them.

The best thing for getting large slotted screws out is a dremel tool. Get a small stright diamond cutter bit that just fits in the
slot. The diamond cutter will clean all the rust out of the slot. Then get a screwdriver or bit that fits TIGHT in the slot. Nine
times out of ten the screw will come right out.

those screws are made of pretty tough stuff. They will come out.
like said, clean the slot, Big good screwdriver that fits with no slop and lean in on that puppy hard when turning it.

JMOR has you covered on the wiring.
your existing bolt all the wires together thing, did the job when the junction stud was broken off.
seen worse...much worse lol
