generator output

is there an inexpensive gizmo out there whereby I can test what my tractors generator's are putting out?
thanks.

Go to harbor freight, walmart and by a voltage meter. put the red lead on positive side of battery, black lead to the ground. set your meter to dc volts. it will read your battery volts. start the tractor and it should increase to tell you what its putting out.

Will not work like this, 6 volt machine use positive ground,.

yes, it's called an ammeter. your tractor came with one from the factory!

couple that with a volt meter and you can, depending on some test wire changes, see what voltage you make at full field, see what your net current is, or total generator output.

Simple cheap volt/ohm meter works well for testing that. Most hard ware stores and such have them for around $20 or so. Then you just check battery volts when not run then fire it up and make sure voltage is up around 7 or so plus volts and 6.3 or so not running

like said, keep it simple.
tractors...volt reading of battery, engine off, then running.
higher running? (not crazy high) good deal
run er up to 3/4 throttle or so, turn on the lights.
Volts still reading higher than it did with engine off?
good to go

there are more accurate tests of course, but I just want to know that it will restart after I turn it off in the field somewhere.
