Champion spark plugs

Now days they are China made junk and do not last long if they work at all. Bad thing is now days auto lite plugs are also made in China. I now use NGK plugs

i had a friend of mine over we examined it threw and threw and he looked the plugs over and said thats one of your problems right there that those champion plugs were no good and he said im 62 years old when i was a kid they were no good then so i just thought i get some input is all

im gonna get a new set tomorrow at my local napas and since its a ford product im gonna put a motorcraft plug in it the plugs that are in it now i cleaned them 5 times tonight they just keep fouling the tractor does run for a little bit then the plugs foul in it then i gotta take them out and clean them again so there cooked

hey this is for all you ford 2n 8n and 9n guys with a front mount distributor i just found on ebay where they make an electronic ignition for our tractors which means no more poits and condensors very very nice setup

yes i def will its a cheap fix might as well try it and the plugs didnt look very healthy looking to begin with anyways

I don't think napa carries Motocraft plugs... I use Champion when it list them as used OEM and when I do I get them from a OEM dealer... As far as I know Chrysler is about the only manufacture that used Champion I think they now use NGK are Denso plugs...

No chumpions used here. Get hot autolites, to
help keep them from fouling. Not likely your
gonna work it too much, so you won't need a
cold plug. Solid core wires are mandatory as
well.

i never thought of that actually i can get autolites tho they are also a good plug and now that i think of it i had went threw like 3 champions in my chainsaw a month ago in one week so i think theres an NGK in it now and i havent changed it since

ya the guy who bought the tractor off my grandfather put carbon core wires on it those got changed to solid core right off

SHLaverdiere........while Champion H-10's were spec'd as OEM in 1939, modern "no-lead" gasoline fouls them very quickly. You would need the HOTTER H-12's iff'n you could find them. That is WHY we recommend AutoLite 437's (gapped 0.025") They are a HOT plug that don't foul on modern no-lead gasoline. .......Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

IIRC, EI for these tractors has been
available for about 30 years. You might
want to do an archives search on this board
on this topic. The debate comes up fairly
often.

ya i never thought they made an electronic ignition i just stumbled across it on ebay looking at random tractor parts and i seen that and i was surprised i bet the tractor would run alot better i have a 77 ford f350 with a 400 in it i replaced the distributor it with an hei conversion one and it was a night and day difference i found

hey thank you much all the info is much appreciated thats what im gonna do is get the autolite 437s and ill gap them to those specs

I had a set of Ch H-10s in mine for 6-7 years, changed to H-12s,still in there and working.

sorry there dude but on a low energy ignition system like that carbon core isnt the proper thing to use because theres not enough power sent threw them to the plug those old points and condenser setups arent like todays coil packs where there is alot of power going threw them so solid core is alot more logical and you just have better fire from the distributor cap to the spark plug with no resistance in between

Why do you spec all my tractors run well no issues at all with used carbon core plug wires (all good used OEM take off's)... Am I that lucky maybe...

For all the copper core lubbers this would be the best wire fer'ya...
its a life time supply :)

Don't be ridiculous. It's a four cylinder so this would be a far better choice. Color coded [b:88f3c07184]and[/b:88f3c07184] in its own harness. 😬

Dude I am with you on the logical part but the rest about carbon core is all made up by folks like you that don't know, they work just find...

The issue with either type of plug wire is quality you get what you pay for...

I use Champion H12 spark plugs now. I used AutoLite 437's too for years and they are both good plugs for these Ford tractors. The H12 may be sold as part number 512 and is a little hotter than the H10. The 437 is a hotter plug too.

I used to run champions, but changed to autolite plugs.

Thought champions just did not last or fouled out.

But later, I determined the problem was my carburetor setting, my carburetor was running
too rich.

a carb running rich will kill any plug, set the carb properly and your plugs should give
long term service and you will use much less fuel.

when I bought new I preferred autolite, but they were hard to find many times, and champs were all that was available.

I havn't bought a new plug in years. i use an abrasive cleaner and just clean, regap and reuse. I bet it's been a good 5+ years since I bought a plug for something.

When TSC stopped selling plugs out of the metal dispenser trays, they clearanced all plugs to 50 cents and were gonna toss the dispenser. I bought all the remaining plugs from my local store ( 13.50$ ) and got the dispenser... so i got plenty of new spares if ever needed.

Keep yer carb adjusted correct and plugs last a loooong time. ocassionalyy I'll pull and gap.. but they don't get abrasive cleaned but usually once, when I get the tractor..e tc..

Yup, I have h10 in one and al 216 in another since I cleaned and reused son ok plugs... Still going..
