See tips 3 & 4 at the link.

How many hours do you put on the tractor annually?

Is the tractor stored under cover or outside?

Those are major factors in figuring out how often to change it.

Keep all of mine under cover & the most use any of them get is 100 hours a year. If the fluid looks good (no water) every 4 years works for me.

When you drain the pump, stick your finger in there. If it's a gooey mess in there, or you feel hard-packed crud in the bottom. then it's time to drop the pump for a good cleaning.

tully.........as Bruce sez, every 4-yrs is probably good. 1st thing drain the diffy plug first 'cuz it peeeeeees with some degree of acuracy. I use a 2x3-ft black plastic pan they sell at the lumber yard fer mixing concrete. Then the 3-in tranny drain, and finally the 3-in hydraulic pump drain. Note: the corner drain does NOT drain the hydraulic pump. In 1939, Ford spec'd 80wt gear oil, this HARD to find, do NOT use diffy oil as it contains BRASS unfriendly additives. Instead fill with 5-gals of M2C-134D hydraulic fluid. Fill is by the tranny shifter. Pour sloooowly. It hazzta drain thru all the tranny gears. Actually 4-1/2 gals is probably good. Don't worry, yer gonna SPILL some of it pourin' outta 5-gal buckett. (find a BIG funnel, eh?) Not all 9N's have a 6-in round dipstick plate, but correct level can also be determined by pullin' the bottom bolt from 6-in plate behind yer right heel and letter drain down the side of the tranny. .......HTH, oily Dell
