Great day on the N

Just wanted to gloat a bit :)

Spent 3+ hours in the seat hoggin' 4 foot high prairie grass yesterday. Got some sun, some wind, some dust and the old 2N didn't miss a beat (like always).

A good time was had by all.

Nice post.
Yeah, getting on them and running them is what it's all about.
And all the more fun when you figure you spend about 3 hours fixing one for every hour you get to spend running it - at least at first till you get all the quirks worked out of one.
Of course I have to drive 115 miles to get up to my land to do anything useful with mine.
And I usually bring a buddy along. So I end up giving most of my seat time away as they are clamoring to drive it.
Sometimes though I go up alone and do as you did - pound down the brush and weeds with the brush cutter. It's always a good way to spend an afternoon.

I have to agree. I was on the 2N with the 5' KingKutter for maybe 1.5hrs yesterday. Getting rid of the nettles and ragweed on the non-'wetlands' area on my property. Can't mow that until after June 15.
This is where this Ford tractor was meant to work. She just sounds good right at that 3/4 throttle under load. It's like my dog; she loves going for a good hard run and then is dead when she is done, but wants to do it again and again.

In this day and age of office work, service industry, and other similar vocations, it is hard sometimes to see what you have done after 8 or 10 hours on the job. But even those of us who don't have the privilege of ag work on a daily basis can see what's behind us after a day of mowing or plowing when we get to. It is a satisfying feeling.

That's exactly why I live an hour from work. I drive a desk for 8, then get very far away from it to my home in the country. After I retire, I hope to never have to go to the city again. I'll just put around on the N all day :)

I spent a few hours this weekend catching up on the mowing at home. Recently bought an 8N to replace the 2N that has oil pressure problems. I plan on fixing the 2N, but I needed mowing NOW! (And it was a good excuse for a second tractor.)

The 8N seems to have a bad governor (PO tied around the spring with baling wire), but that shouldn't be too hard to fix. It started out with a frozen lift -- wouldn't go up OR down -- but it started working after a few hours. Engine runs nice. Tires are old and have a number of cracks -- but the rears also have the molding flash on them, so it apparently sat someplace for quite a while.

I too got to use mine this weekend. Worked up an area behind the hunting cabin to plant some veggies and hauled some dirt from inside the cabin. Of course the screw on the sediment bowl knob fell off and I lost the deal, thankfully it opens and closes fairly easy.

sure a better time than mine. had to get mine "unstuck" from one of the neighbors trails. started on a downhill run last weekend and saw the trail was washed out; impassable. tried to back uphill and got stuck in a muckhole. (wouldn't have been an issue if i could have made it all the way downhill; other ways back up)

between his rhino ATV with a winch; a lot of chains and a long strap we got it out. and only had to rehook / reposition the ATV a half dozen times. didn't help it started raining about an hour before we started. wish it would have been dry; pictures would hae been good. even with rain jackets we were both pretty wet by the time we were done.

but now we have memories and he has something to laugh at me about.

That's a nice day. It must be that time of year, I was on mine for several hours today too, cleaning up piles of construction rubble around the cottage.

"Of course the screw on the sediment bowl knob fell off...."

You probably have extras, but if not let me know.
I have a couple around where folks have cross threaded the line.
I kept them to use for parts if/when needed.

"Just wanted to gloat a bit :)"

Gloat away, I spent my day at work. :(

But I did get to work up one of my gardens over the weekend! :)

Put a french drain around the house spent 10 hr. moving dirt and gravel..

Went down the road and moved all the chit including the tree trunks of 6 big pines a bud had laid on the ground...

Went across town and mowed/bush hogged a couple acres I left at 3:15 and got back at the house at 5:22

I have about 4 hr in moving stumps and maybe a coupe more early in the morning...

All on my Bota the Ford just watched in amazement...

I did disc up my neighbors garden with the 3000 and cultivated my garden with a Farmall 100... I would have used my Farmall 140 with rolling cultivators but forgot I had it till today... I had been told once you get the rolling cultivators set right you will not take them off they were right but you have to remember were you put it...

A guy ask me today what do have in that building I said a boat and a tractor then it hit me my 140 was in there waiting to cultivate it has EI (electronic Ignition for those that dunno whut EI izz) and would have fired off at a blink of a eye...

"it has EI (electronic Ignition for those that dunno whut EI izz)
and would have fired off at a blink of a eye..."

I have half a dozen Farmalls around here and they all start in
the blink of an eye. No EI required.

I haven't figured out how to put EI on the hand crank ones yet,
but a good magneto seems to do just as well.
They even run without a battery. Amazing! ;)

They aren't worth a darn at anything other than cultivating or
hauling a political campaign (manure spreader) tho.

No loader, most of mine have no hydraulics at all and no 3 pt.
That's where newer is nicer. Glad you're loving the 'bota!

Sitting on a tractor is like a breath of fresh air. I like to find reasons to get some seat time with no distractions. Glad you had fun.

agree that tractors have a different sound to em when they are happy and working.
Working on my trails and trees in this window before it's too hot or cold out. (short window....heavy frost a day or 2 ago, 85 yesterday....)
couple trees had to go.
dig around their base with the orange tractor and then pull em over with a bigger tractor.
Pulling the entire trees and root ball to where I wanted to cut it up......Ford working hard with a full load. nice sound.

ps full canopy trees do a great job of 'raking' dirt trails. Did a better job than my rake...lol

I made the mistake of put'N a N ignition switch on it that lead to the EI conversion... It does start better has more HP and a nicer tone to the Zaust... Are it may be those used GM HEI graphite plug wires that have been on it for 30 years...

a great day on 1 is when you hit the starter and it actually starts and you don't have to work on it for 2 or 3 hours or pull it for miles to get it to run.

Didn't get on the N yesterday but I did harvest 20 heads of broccoli that were planted in soil plowed by my N last fall and tilled by my Troy-Bilt this spring.
