Please help me find my knock

Hi, yesterday I noticed that I had a knocking noise and there was a little grinding sort of noise with it. I tried disengaging the PTO and the noise stayed. While I was turning and I pressed the brake pedal to help turn sharper the noise got worse. But I noticed that whenever I pressed the clutch in the noise left. Everything was purring like always. Then right before I put the tractor up the noise went away all together. Well this morning I was going to plant a few rows of purple hull peas and I got the tractor out and the knock was there not as bad but present. And it didn't matter if the clutch was in or out the knock was still there. The knock got a little worse before I put it away but not too bad. My oil pressure doesn't drop, I'm not smoking. And I'm lost since it seems to change when the knock starts and it will stop at times. The motor was rebuilt a few years ago. If anyone could give me any ideas as to where to start looking I would appreciate it.

If the clutch was in but it was rolling was the knock
there? Get it rolling and shut it off with the clutch in
- is it still there? I'm inclined to say that maybe the
large axle nut has backed off or one of the rear
wheels is loose. Does it clunk when you go from
forward to reverse? I've had them do that when a
rear hub was worn out.

It's kinda mission impossible to help you much from here.
I would take a long screwdriver or even a short broom handle and put it to my ear and start listening here and there around the tractor. See if you can pinpoint it to the engine, clutch, transmission or rear end. That would help a lot knowing even that much.

Does the knock change speeds with engine RPM?
How about with ground speed? Might help narrow it down.

No it doesn't seem to change speeds. Although at higher speeds it seems to get quieter. Or maybe the noise of the engine drowns it out. Thanks

OK, I've got some news that might enable someone to help. I just went out and fired my 8n and started checking with a long screwdriver to try and pinpoint the noise. As best I can tell it seems to be in the area of the flywheel. It also had a little rattle to it. Is there anything in that area that has a history of causing such a rattle and knocking? Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't think of anything in that area that wouldn't change speed
with the RPMs. Hopefully someone has more insight.

Yes, it might pick up some as the engine runs faster, but the sound of the engine kinda drowns it out. I'm working a lot of overtime this week so I don't have much time to work on it. As soon as I'm able I'm going to get it on a hill and kill the engine and let it coast down to see if the noise is still there. Maybe something like a spring come loose on the clutch and its rattling around. I would think that if it was something major you would be able to feel the knock. But you can't. And it's a little bit of a rattle. Thanks.
