8 N voltage regulator

I am new to this forum and hope to be able to find someone who can help me with my problem. My 1952 8N amp gauge bounces high /low . Have changed VR twice, at first it works good then will slowly start bouncing until gauge is slamming back and forth again. Any suggestions?

Is it keeping the battery charged?

If so, the problem is more annoying than an actual problem.

By nature, "vibrating point" regulars tend to act like yours, especially the substandard import units typically sold today.

Also, quality mobile equipment ammeters are "damped" to reduce the effect you are seeing.

Steve........first thing I'd do is "re-polarize" yer square can voltage regulator. Just "arc-spark" yer side by side ARM and BAT terminals, engine OFF. Me? I use a wide blade stubby screwdriver, you can use bailin' warr iff'n you want. While modern square can voltage regulators are NOT the paragon of reliability of a solid-state regulator, you summtymms haffta byte the bullett and buy a 'nutter one. As fer the bouncin' around, could be loose wiring, check the back of yer generator too. It could also be BAD BRUSHES in yer genny or bad armature contacts. Gennys are NOT a do-it-yerself repair. ........electrical Dell
