I met a man about my age (80) at a car show over in Clay County AL yesterday. He was a flight engineer and pilot in the Air Force for 12 years before damaging his back by holding a 9 cylinder radial engine from crushing another man that fell off an engine mount on a C47. He flew the C45, C47 C54, C121, C119, and about all the piston engine planes from that era. Had to retire from the back injury. It took him 20 years to finally get 100% disability from the VA. The VA is supposed to give deserved help to our Vetrans. My mother had the same problem with the VA for my daddy who was a WW1 Veteran who was one of the doughboys sent over resque France from the Germans. He damaged his back pushing a cannon in the mud and was hit with shrapnel from an artelery shell explosion. He died in 1939 at age 45 suffering with that back and leg till he died of a heart attack. Mama never gave up but never got the VA to pony up with what he and our family was owed.
Thank a Veteran tomorrow.
