9N 239829 solenoid ?

I am troubleshooting electrical issues. On this tractor the solenoid is 2 post mounted just above the starter switch. The only replacements I see are 3 post mounted on the starter itself.
How to replace it ?
 
You could have a solenoid if someone added it. 9N's didn't have them. They had a mechanical starter switch as shown at the link below:

Is this what you are calling a starter switch?

If so, it's part number 9N11450B, available on this site.

Yes, it has a switch like that that goes to the starter. But mounted directly above the starter switch is a cylinder mounted horizontally with a feed to the battery cable. Local guy told me it was a solenoid. I have the 9n manual downloaded , this part is not pictured. When I depress the starter button sometimes it fires right up and sometimes it just moans, does not crank. This can continue until the battery cable gets hot and I stop. Try again later and I never know if it will fire right up or repeat the failure to fire. I need to learn how to read the wiring diagram. Thanks,
 
I think you need to take the starter in to a shop for a rebuild. If the battery cable is getting hot something is taking a lot more current than it should and that something is likely to be the starter.
 
Hot cables mean poor connections or a starter on its way out. Try tapping on the starter with a screw driver handle. If it spins over well after you have done that good chance your brushes are getting bad. If that does not help you could also have a starter that has an internal short which will cause hot cables . Or you may also have cables that are getting bad and that you can not see with your eyes. If still 6 volts you need 0 or 00 battery cables or they will cause that problem also

That is the 'cutout'. It is part of the charging system. (Assuming your tractor is still six volts). It prevent the battery from discharging
thru the generator when the tractors is shut down. If your tractor has been converted to 12 volts with an alternator, the cutout is
superfluous.
 
When you tap on a starter you loosen up the brushes so they make better contact and if that helps you know the brushes are getting bad. As for how hard well you will break the handler of the screw driver before you can hit it hard enough to hurt the starter
