Ignition Question

My Ford 640 will not start with a battery, but when pull started, it fires right up! What is my problem? I have a new battery but it cranks over a little slow.

One if cranking slow may not crank fast enough to start. Or the starter could have bad bushings causing it to drag. As the starter has to draw more amps to turn it can reduce current available to less than needed to both crank and produce spark.

Good chance the starter is pulling to many amps from the ignition system to have a good spark. Check your spark when spinning it over. You need a blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. If the spark is weak pull the starter off and take it to a good auto parts store and have it checked. Most do it for free

In addition to what others said, check your battery cables and ground. If six volt, you need 1 or 0 gauge cables. Cables can get internal corrosion and not conduct electric current as well.

Thank you all. It is 12 volt. I was thinking it was the starter, just needed you guys with experience to convey your thoughts. Again, thanks I'll check the starter. The cables are new and heavy gauge.
