temporary fuel supply for hood-off engine tuning?

I have 2 or 3 old small gas tanks form push lawn mower I use on things. Keep one in the car I use to go places to fix tractors and one or 2 in the shop.

(quoted from post at 12:23:48 05/21/15) What do you all use for a temp fuel tank when the hood is off your tractor?

Thanks, Todd
I used the fuel tank off of my "spare" riding lawnmower, which only requires removing about four (4) bolts to remove the tank.

A few feet of fuel line, a shut-off, and a short piece of brake line with the fitting to thread into the carburetor elbow, and you're in business.

Other folks have rigged up plastic bottles, etc., but the fuel tank was the easiest way for me.

EDIT: Sorry, Old and Bob can type faster than me, and posted while I was typing! :)

As another said, some rubber min and piece of brake line for proper end. My tank came from a junk pushmower at the dump I scavenged wheels and tank from

Garden sprayer.

Clean tank and hose, remove hose nozzel, clamp hose to fuel line, add a quart or so of gasoline, pump sprayer a few times, and bunge the tank to the footboard or other convenient location.

You are good to go.

Ah, the 'ol "cop a fuel tank off something else" trick. Great idea. I know lots of people around here that could donate such a part.

Thanks!! Todd

My usual is a 1 gallon thinner can with a tube soldered on, it hangs from wire anywhere. Yesterday I did something different for a car with a badly plugged fuel tank that sat since 1971.

This is overkill, but I had a tank from a Wisconsin AE engine that holds 1-1/2 gallons and has a
sediment bowl with shutoff and 1/4" tube outlet. I built a bracket that is clamped between the oil
filter and the head. I still have to make the outlet pipe, which will end exactly where the stock
fuel line enters the sediment bowl, with a 1/4' female inverted flare to match the stock fuel line.

The larger tank gives me enough fuel to take the tractor out and really put it through it's paces.

Old lawn mower tanks make the best temp tanks. Just remember to route the rubber gas line far enough away from the
exhaust manifold/pipes. Bought this 640 ran when parked a couple/few years ago. The tank was all gummed/rusted up with
old fouled smelling gas. With the loader and hood in the way I've been running with a temp tank since I got it running
again. finally got the loader/tin off about a month ago for repairs and tank cleaning.
When I go to look at a "ran when parked" tractor I usually take with me a battery, jumper wires,a good carb, and a temp
tank. I've drove many a tractor, after the deal was made, on to my trailer much to the previous owner surprise with the
help of a temp tank.
