selling my tractor

Hi,

I have questions about selling my 1941 Ford 9n. I bought the tractor with the dream of restoring it but life got busy and I never got around to it. So it has been sitting for a couple of years. Last fall I rebuilt the carbonator and got it running. the engine is strong and it doesn't smoke or anything. Clutch and Transmission are fine as well. The three point hitch has stopped working. I am not good with Hydraulics so I would have to have someone fix it. Do you think it is worth spending money to get it working before I sell it? How much value would you expect to lose without a working Three Point?

I Also have a Dearborn trip style front end loader that is not on the tractor. It has a cracked weld in one of the reservoir tubes. But worked when I removed it. Does it have any value? How would you sell it?

Fixing the lift on your 9N could be easy to medium difficult. For sure it will be worth more working than not working. Remove the right round
inspection port. Put a pan under the tractor in case there is excess fluid there. Feel down inside the oil and make sure the control fork is
connected to the control valve in the pump. That is the most common cause for a completely non working lift. If not connected, the fix is to
remove the left inspection cover and somehow use two hands to spread the fork over the 'T' shaped control valve. You may have to drain the
fluid to see what you are doing. If that's not the problem post back.

In my area a average with usable tires sells for about $1200.

I've opened it up to look when it stopped working and it appears to be connected. I noticed that the holes between linkages are elongated and am wondering if they are putting enough pressure on the valve to open it. but it worked one day and didn't the next.

Any thoughts on the loader?

As Harold said and sometimes the fix is as easy as replacing the safety relief valve. That can be done thru the inspection covers. If all linkages are rights and the oil isn't murky brown with water, then try that.

Where do you live that a 9n is only worth $500? Here in Nebraska, even with a stuck engine and bad rims a 9n would still hit $1200.

If you can rebuild a carb, you can do the simple Hyde on that tractor.

Might be just the control fork came off the t valve

That's what happened to my 2n, lift worked on way to field about hour later no lift. Pulled right side round inspection cover, reached in and found fork off valve. Thanks to all that post here saved me from pulling lift cover. :D
