voltage at ignition coil front mount distributor

Hello. The 8n has been converted to a 12 volt system and a ballast resistor used between the switch (battery voltage) and the ignition coil. When I connect a volt meter between ground and the ignition coil what should the meter read? Thanks in advance for any comments.

12 volts when the points are open. Less than that when the points are closed. Connect a test light to the top of the coil and ground it
somewhere on the engine block or manifold. It should blink when turning the engine over and the ignition on.

if I'm reading this correct. You have a 12 volt system with a six volt coil and a resister. The coil should have six volts.

hat thought is too simple. If it is actually a 6v coil, then sitting with points closed, ign on, engine stalled, the steady state voltage should be 2.45 volts across coil.
