OT - "New" Rustoleum Paint negative review

I'm generally a fan of Rustoleum paints and I really like
the look of the hammered silver paint when used on the rims.

So when I saw this "new" hammered silver spray paint and
primer in one in my local store I thought I'd give it a try.

It was about $7 per can, didn't cover well and didn't "hammer"
like the normal hammered steel out of a quart can.
I was painting it on metal that was already primed and tried
it on some scrap sheet metal just for principle. Same result.

Once the can sat overnight the fancy nozzle was plugged so
tight I couldn't get it to spray anymore either, so it was either
use it all at once or throw it out.

Don't waste you money.

Royse thanks for the heads up.
I was never a fan of the all-in-one paint. Always like to see what my primer looks like when dry then cover it with a good couple coats of fresh paint.

Always a shame in this day of clean air paints and zipply packaging when a good product gets replaced with a new, inferior, one. Any idea if this stuff replaces the old
version, or is a new line?

I've been a big fan of RO's hammered finish as there is nothing that goes on so easily and thick and does as good a job of covering up old paint, rust and pits with minimal
prep. I have an MC trailer I painted with the silver hammered finish about 5 years ago after a quick pass with a wire brush followed by a wipe with a rag and some phosphoric
acid, still looks good today after being outside all that time. I put some toluol in a jar and keep the spray nozzles it it they don't clog.

If the new bad stuff replaces the old version, one can always try to find some Hammerite , which is very good, and the stuff that RO knocked off when they came out with
hammered finish.

No idea. Store still had the old spray version too, but honestly
the quart can is better than either rattle can version, whether
you spray it or brush it.

I never have any trouble if I use the toluol trick, but did you kow that Rustoleum sells replacement spray tips? Item 7898000. Cheaper than a whole new rattle can.

I wonder if you could stand the whole can upside down in
toluol since these new ones don't have a removable nozzle.

when finished spraying with a rattle can I always turn it upside down and spray all of the paint out of the tube/top

Duane same here. Always flip can over and spray air through. Also removed the tips and throw them in a jar of acetone until next use.

Surprised to hear that the tips are not removable.

To me the paint seems ok but the trigger is lacking. It does better when spraying long lines versus short burst. Try turning the can upside down and pulling the trigger, it should spray again. But it will only spray upside down now. That is one of the any angle nozzles I believe. Not sure how to clear them when done.

Yep, it's an any angle nozzle Rob. Tipping it upside down and
trying to clean it didn't work for me like the regular ones do.

The rustoleum spray cans I have been buying spray at all angles , even up side down .
[i:bed2880426] In addition, there is an any-angle spray feature that allows you to spray in any direction, even upside-down. Rust-Oleum 7797830 Protective Enamel Semi Gloss Spray [/i:bed2880426]
