Someone posted this on fb I was attempting to compare it to other early 9n's...Is it really possible less than 100hrs of use? Looks like the head gasket is leaking. Do 75 year old tires really still look that good? Original grill ya think? Certainly a nice looking tractor and way out of my price range. But interesting.

Looks like newer paint to me. Looks like a reproduction grill. Those are not 32" tires. Look like 28" to me. Dash is 1940 (key on lower left). Most likely an original 1940 that has been refinished.

My previous comments still stand. Might post this on the 'other' board as there are several really original early 9N owners over there.

Hard to tell from the pic if its all original finish...everything looks right for the year. Its just so clean, I dont really know to tell the truth. In my years of fooling on the side selling Kubotas I have found two almost new aold tractors: one was a Fergie 35 that was delivered and put in the barn and the owner passsed before it was ever moved, the tires were shot from sitting and going flat, had bad cracks and it probably could not have been cleaned up this nice due to barn dirt and grime and pigeon crap. The other was a Case DC that was delivered had the lights and fenders removed and a loader put on before the owner was killed in an accident: his son has maintained and used it once a year to hog about 2 acres which he now does with a newer Kubota. This tractor was covered all time even in the barn and cleaned up very nice! Yes the original brand new lights, fenders and battery box were all there and covered also!

Yes but, they have all been redone. Here is a picture of my 1940 as I got it. I think this is original paint.

I think Dennis Carpenter makes 28" repop tires but not the 32" .

Looks like a nice $4,000 tractor

My first impression was, how could the toolbox paint look so weathered and true to its age but not the hood.

The parts and details look correct. The serial number seems to low to be a 1940. My 40 is number 27922.

I don't think the hood paint is original. If it had one of those FORD hood covers. I would think the edges would have the paint wore off.

Back in 1953 the Case dealer in town closed. They had one SC left. It was parked in a barn on the south end of town. It was there till 1984 when it was sold. The new owner drove it home parked it. It sat there till last year. The owner died and his sons sold it for scrap.

Man that's the saddest tractor story I've ever heard!
a sad Case. :(

Unless you meant that he sold it at a scrap [b:5640c2e38d]price[/b:5640c2e38d] and it now has a happy new owner. (?)

I know Jim MacFadden. Like the rest of us he likes to get what he can for what he has, but he really knows his tractors. Jim also knows the history of many tractors sitting in various places all over the U.S. And Canada. Chances are good that Jim has had his eye on this tractor for many years and really does know its history. The pictures show very good condition paint with many little minor flaws that would come from just sitting for many years.

No the 1953 Case SC went to the iron man. I tried to buy it several times before the owner died. His sons had the iron man on
speed dial. Sold everything within minutes of the old man death.

In total he had around 25 tractors. They hauled 17 semi loads of iron out of his farm. Lot of Dearborn equipment went for scrap
too. Including a two way plow.

that's pretty sad! Unfortunatly it happens quite often. I only have 1 girl that just turned 6 yesterday, its my hopes that she will take an interest in the tractors and not sell them off when I kick the bucket!

I am just barely 50 years old but I plan on making a list w/ fair market value prices on my tools / equipment / machinery in case something sudden happens .

When my wife's grandpa died some of the nephews swooped in like vultures and bought stuff for pennies on the dollar . Grandma loved the kids and thought the prices must have been fair .

Grandma moved in with us and we took care of her for 15 years before she passed . After the vultures pick the meat off I salvaged the rest of the stuff . It took a couple years to go through everything , ID it and figure out where the missing parts were to make complete sets or a whole unit . It wasn't but a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff but it would have been scraped for under a hundred bucks .

I would encourage everyone to take inventory and add prices . It would be good for insurance too . Take pics while your at it .
