Royse or Gary-carb ?

Few weekends ago we bought a bunch of mostly new n series parts from a gentleman some being several new carbs from tsc...the guy was a tisco dealer at one point. Anyhow the top half of one has a hairline crack just to the left of where the elbow screws in. Is that something that can be filled somehow? Obviously we haven't stuck it on a tractor to see how bad it leaks.

Would like to have a pic. to see exactly where the crack starts, and ends.
If the crack is on the 'Flat', just before the elbow casting....Anywhere close to the 'idle/air screw.... The chance of sucking in air is greater, changing the fuel/air mix.
But if the crack is on the elbow casting, and was started by too much force with the elbow being forced in too far......you may have a GOOD chance of a repair, on the casting and elbow threads!!!

Hope this is NOT one of those aftermarket 'Black Beauties'!!!!
If it is....I would not even attempt a repair, as the casting on those are pretty much junk, letting the crack travel too deep/far!!!
JMHO!!!

I'll get a pic of it Friday evening and post. Its on the flat spot below the idle screw. Pretty sure it was on that side. It's not the black one. Although I did get a few of those I'll get some pics of those too. Supposedly there is a company in MN that made the black ones. Cant remember if they said Marvel on them or not. I don't think this one had ever been installed. He had a prototype gas tank we got also brand new. Couple new generators he thought we're wired wrong because allegedly they didn't charge...but we were thinking its a possibility they were never polarized. Have to test them I suppose. Picked up a pickup box full of stuff.

If the crack is where you just said it is....then make sure to remove the Throttle body (top) from the carb, and inspect the 'LUNG'/ under-side of it, for ANY possibility of that crack going into the float area.
The only aftermarket carbs that I like, is the goldish, smooth sided , Potmetal looking carbs. They work good, and are easy to overhaul with new kits!!!!

I'll get some pics to be certain the location. This is what the carb looks like.

That is the aftermarket carb, that I DO like!!!!!
Usually don't see any cracks or real damage to those!!!!

The only reason I could beleive crack-damage is,...if someone dropped the carb on a hard suface...(IE) cement floor or whacked it with something really hard???????

Lisa.........chrome carburetor??? As the ol' hot-rodders say, "iff'n it don't go, chrome it" .......Dell (giggle)

Great ? I don't believe it was ever installed on the tractor. I've got one maybe 2 more of them we got with it all. One the tag said fuel wouldn't go into the bowl but didn't appear to have ever been installed either. Cant remember about the other one. I didn't realize how expensive they are till I looked it up.

Just saw your post Lisa, looks like Gary's got you covered!
I had one of those gold carbs on one of my 8N's.
It worked and ran great. I replaced it only because I like
the M/S carbs and test so many of them on that tractor.
I made a fellow forum member a really good deal on it.

Lol...I dunno about that...might lead to chroming other things n I don't wanna do that. Sounds expensive

We had one of those on Marks first 8n..sold
he tractor few months ago. All the others
have Marvel's. I never noticed a difference
between the 2 as to performance. I like the
look of the originals better.

Royse I got one of them carbs, bought it while you had mine. Don't need it now plus it needs some adjustment. If you want I make you a good deal. :?:
